Many refugee and immigrant women, faced with the stress of settling their family into a new environment, often neglect of have no time to meet their own needs. Medical studies have indicated that stress level is correlated to health problems such as stroke, heart attack, and cancer; therefore, it is important to create a supportive environment for the women to take care of themselves. The Women's Retreat offers an opportunity for the women to spend a day focusing on themselves while taking a break from their normal responsibilities.

Original Staged Reading, Magnificent Healing

PAIRWN has developed a staged reading that shares the stories of immigrant and refugee women's experiences with health in the United States, Ecuador, Somalia, and Iran. The play was developed by Lori Myers and directed by Anne Alsedek with initial funding from the Open Meadows Foundation and PA Council on the Arts.

Magnificent Healing premiered at our Annual Women's Health Conference in 2009, and was performed again at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center's Global Health Night in 2010, with funding provided by the Doctors Kienle Center for Humanistic Medicine, Office of the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs, Global Health Interest Group, and the American Medical Student Association.

PAIRWN is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the well-being of immigrant and refugee communities in Pennsylvania. As the first organization in Pennsylvania to focus directly on immigrant and refugee women's issues, PAIRWN has a crucial and ground-breaking mission.
